The Everything Tutor

I’ve written or co-written several books on education. The most popular ones are The Equation for Excellence, a book about teaching math, Invitation to the Ivies, a book about getting into Ivy League colleges, and Get AI Out of Your Classroom, which shows teachers how to stop A.I. cheating.

I started experimenting with education early on, taking my first college course at age 13. I started volunteer tutoring at age 15, and in 2002, I decided to make tutoring my full time job. Since then, education has been my only job. It’s been a mix of tutoring, teaching group classes, and developing curricula.

I’m a graduate of Brown University, with a Bachelor of Science in mathematics. But on the way to the math major, I switched majors several times. I started as a philosophy major, then became a psychology major, strongly considered neuroscience, switched to an economics major, and then finally became a math major.

In high school, I was a National Merit semifinalist, with the highest SAT scores in my graduating class (790M, 790V). I also got scores of 5 on ten AP exams. After college, I got perfect scores on the GRE and GMAT. I’m happy to say that many of my students have academically surpassed my high school record!

I’ve had the opportunity to discuss education on various major media outlets, including CBS, NBC, and Fox. I also host The Turing Police’s podcast, Get AI Out of Your Classroom.

My inspiration is the original “Everything Tutor”: Aristotle. I believe that true learning involves seeing how subjects connect to each other to let you perceive the world more clearly. I believe that scientific and philosophical exploration is inherently connected, and that excellence in ethics shapes excellence in all other areas.

I work with students in my own proprietary video classroom, using a professional studio setup. That includes a studio microphone and a mirrorless DSLR camera. My students use Apple Pencils (or Samsung S-Pens) on our digital whiteboards, allowing an unmatched level of collaboration and analysis. If you’ve been turned off by online education in the past, this is a completely different standard from what you may have seen elsewhere.
